we are the champions!
Woohoo!! We kicked ass….again!! *big grin* The finals are over! The winners have been announced! It’s over!! Over!!! *Phew* *Big sigh of relief*
We’re really really pleased to have gotten it over and done with. Life can now go back to some normality. Hehe. We were on such a high after the 3rd heat but somehow did not look forward to the finals as much cos we were 1) stressed out with another round of intensive practices; and 2) kinda getting tired of it all. Also I was highly stressed out with work as the Finals was just the night before the Grand Finale Dinner that the company was organising. Having said that, we tried our v.best. At the last min, we decided to revise a tiny part of the routine plus enhance our shines. Hence, the intensive practices that we had to go thru in order to smoothen and polish the routine. When it came to the finals, we were flat out tired and exhausted and just couldn’t wait to get it over with.
12 couples were finalists. 6 couples performed their general dance and showcases first, then the next 6 couples. This time, Ken picked out no. 10 for us!! Martin & Erin got no. 1…again! Eric & Peggy were no. 6 and CL & AL got no. 12. The HE couples were quite spread out.
When it came to the 2nd batch of couples for general dance, I felt that I didn’t do that well. Further, we’ve been told beforehand that each couple ought to move around the dance floor to give chance to everyone to be seen by the judges. There was a lot of bumping as some couples just shoved their way thru. Ugh! Surprisingly, there had been flattering comments about my performance. So I gez it wasn’t too bad….I hope! Hehe.
The showcase was as best as Ken and I could have performed. Despite a tiny fumble at the end of our routine, I think it was one of the best we’ve done since we started. *grin* Thank goodness to my pardner who saved the day when we fumbled on that last part. If it wasn’t for that save, we would have had our backs facing the audience for our final pose! *gasp* What a disaster that would have been. But luckily Ken was quick enuf to put us right back on track and we ended the performance with a high note for sure!! Yippee!! Great job, pardner!!
Then after what seemed like a really long time for the judges to total up scores, the announcement came! There were 3 ancillary titles before the Top 3 were announced - Most Promising Couple, Crowd’s Favourite Couple and Best Costume Couple. CL & AL won the Best Costume Couple! Kudos to them! And the 2nd runner up……Ken & Wen….ta da!!! Hahaha. Woohoo!! We were Top 3!! That was pretty cool. *big grin*
It was a pity that our HE couples did not win more titles or spots. I think it’s fair to say, without sounding biased, that our couples outshone at the finals. However, as politically as salsa is, it would not have been possible to award the Top 3 spots to all HE couples. It seemed that 6 out of 7 judges were from a ‘certain clique’ of salsa dancers. And needless to say, the Top 2 spots were won by students from that ‘certain clique’. So judging everything and taking all into perspective, I gez Ken and I were v.lucky and somewhat honoured to have even been considered for the Top 3 spots!
Oh well…not much can be done! But i think the general crowd would have their views on this and I’m confident that they would agree that our HE couples deserved a whole lot more. In fact, I’ve received numerous such comments. So dear HE fellow couples - at the end of the day, we’re all winners!!! A big WELL DONE to all!!!
As 2nd runner up winners, we got ourselves tiny trophies and a huge-ass "MOK" cheque* for RM500. Our ‘real’ cheque is suppose to arrive a week later. Apparently, we got news that the Top 3 are required to perform at the Night of Champions on 22 Dec - honestly, I’m not that up to it. What’s worse is that evidently upon signing up for this competition, one of the terms and conditions binds the winners to the organisers for a year for any performances that may be required. WTF!! I certainly had missed that fine print. Aarrggghh… Oh dear, I wonder if we can get out of that clause. Hmm…
So anyway….we’re thrilled nonetheless. Another achievement I’m definitely proud of. Great job, pardner!! It had been a wonderful yet stressful, humourous yet painful (from kicks and punches - haha), exciting and awesome experience!! I’ve certainly enjoyed the entire journey with you!! *wink* Coolio!!
